Superheroes wear different caps and come in different forms. In the town of Nyalenda, Kisumu County a young hero has dedicated his life to helping transform the lives of the people in his community.
Like most origin stories, Kizito Omollo’s begins from a humble background. The sixth of seven children, Kizito was always the caretaker in his family. After completing his education, Kizito trained and interned at Kenya Private Sector Alliance – Kenya Youth Empowerment Project ( KEPSA – KYEP), which offers training and internship opportunities for youths in Kenya to gain work experience; here his love for young people and community development was ignited.
Kayz, as referred to commonly in Kisumu, has over the years organized projects for the youth in Kisumu. His initiatives focus on youth education, employment, entrepreneurship, entertainment, technology, sports, agriculture and inspiring success stories to motivate and add value to the youth.
This young hero has leveraged technology, especially the power of social media, to spread his reach to the youth of Kisumu. Through his passion for digital media and content creation, Kizito has worked with organizations like Livity Africa and Open Business Africa as a trainer for Google Digital skills to train young people and small medium businesses (SMB).
He is a Co-founder of Koko Media LTD, a youth owned Consultancy Company that operates in the social media and digital space. The organization has trained numerous Kisumu youth on social media marketing to help them build their businesses across new platforms.
Kizito’s main advise for young people is to be unapologetically authentic…“You don’t have to be like Bill Gates, Lupita Nyong’o, David Rudisha or any other successful humans. Just be your unique self. God created every man for a unique purpose. Find and live in yours.”
